The Hobbyist - Jim Wolverton
Tutorials - The How Page
There are two common factors in all the hobbies that I pursue. One is the involvement of manual dexterity.
The other, more important, is the necessity to learn something new, very often a new technique or skill.
Other times it is discovering how something works.
While much can be acquired from the many fine texts available, my favorite method is to watch a demonstration.
Making the assumption that there are others like me leads me to attempt this section of tutorials.
Ideally, I would like to provide videos with commentary. Unfortunately I don’t have the equipment nor expertise.
However, I do have a couple digital cameras. I’m hoping that a bunch of pictures with explanation will get the job done.
It is expected that the visitor knows the rudiments of working with glass.
I have no intention of teaching a class, here or elsewhere, on cutting, fusing, foiling, slumping, coldworking, etc.
I will concentrate my efforts on little things that I have found helpful or that others have asked about.
I am inclined to make my own or specialized tools and jigs. This will provide a means of sharing what I’ve learned with others.
I am occasionally asked, “How did you make that?” so I will also try to provide some tutorials on making various pieces.
I reiterate, I make no claim that what I demonstrate here is the best method nor even the correct method.
It is simply how I do it. I will continue to follow the practice of linking thumbnails to larger pictures.
